The 15th Annual Gusi Peace Prize International awarding ceremony was held on November 23, 2016 at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City, with SGI President Daisaku Ikeda as one of the recipients.  More than 1,000 members of SGI Philippines have proudly and cheerfully witnessed SGI Vice President Hiromasa Ikeda received the award on behalf of President Ikeda, who was recognized for his contributions to the achievement of world peace and respect for human dignity.

An energetic and dynamic Sōran Bushi dance number was performed by the Soka Gakkai International Youth Group, accompanied by Men’s Division flagbearers.

In his inspirational speech, Mr. Michael Nobel, Chairman of the Nobel Sustainability Trust Fund and great grand nephew of Nobel Peace Prize founder Alfred Nobel, stated:

“I would particularly like to express my appreciation for the inclusion in this distinguished group the two laureates whom I nominated, namely President Daisaku Ikeda, head of the world-renowned peace organization Soka Gakkai International, tonight represented by his son, Hiromasa Ikeda, and Dr. Vincent Giampapa, a world authority on anti-aging and cell health.

President Ikeda and SGI have been profoundly engaged in peace activities around the world for more than 60 years and represent such a sterling example of candidates who merit the highest awards for constructive peace work.  The religion of SGI, Buddhism, is the shining star of peace among the world’s religions.”

With the untiring and resolute efforts of Chairman Barry S. Gusi, the Gusi Peace Prize will carry on the legacy to give proper recognition and acclaim to individuals or groups worldwide who have dedicated themselves to be excellent models of society, contributing to the attainment of peace and respect for human life and dignity.
