Commemorating Mentor & Disciple Day and Young Men’s Division and Young Women’s Division Foundation Day

The SGI Philippines Youth Division held its general meeting on July 17, 2016 at the Manila International Peace Center, in commemoration of the founding dates of the Young Men’s Division (July 11) and Young Women’s Division (July 19).  More than 300 Youth Division members and guests joined this gathering.

Experiences in faith and activities were shared by members of the International Headquarters:  Ohka (Jp: Cherry Flowers) District of Japanese members, Philippine International Friendship Group of English speaking members, and Mu Gung Hwa (Korea’s national flower) of Korean members.  Miss Vanshika Khanna, together with her mother, Mrs. Vimmi Khanna, also related how she overcame her health problem through faith in Nichiren Daishonin’s Buddhism.  Representing the Filipino members was Miss Smiley King, who narrated her experience in winning against her family’s and her own health problems through chanting and exerting herself more in SGI activities.

Providing the heartwarming atmosphere to the meeting were the Student Division Chorus (composed of Soka University exchange students and Student Division representatives), who sang “Sun of Hope” (composed by SGI President Ikeda in 1991), and the Youth Music of Peace Group, with their rendition of “Youth, Scale the Mountain of the 21st Century” and “Best Friends” in Chinese.

Following the speeches of Mr. Thomas Okamura, International Chapter Young Men’s Division Chief and Mr. Manuel Ang, Youth Division National Chief, SGI Philippines General Director Hisako Alcantara expressed her profound trust and expectations on the Youth Division in carrying out the movement for the realization of a peaceful Philippines.
