October 2 is celebrated as World Peace Day for the Soka Gakkai. For the SGI, peace is often referred to as kosen-rufu, which literally means “to widely declare and spread broadly”. By courageously spreading this philosophy of respect for the dignity of life, SGI members ceaselessly contribute to achieving world peace, one life at a time.
Though a common definition for peace and happiness exists, each individual has their own experience of it. My Peace of Art is a collection of “pieces of peace” submitted by Soka Gakkai Philippines Student Division members. These artworks, in the form of paintings, illustrations, digital art, and photographs, showcase the different ways peace can be seen in our daily lives.
Take time to enjoy the pieces submitted by the student division members, whose works express their own experience of peace. It is our hope that these pieces of peace inspire us to find and appreciate the things around us that bring peace to our hearts, and to also share our own pieces of peace with others.
“True art, true culture, strives to enrich the individual and encourage self-expression, while seeking to reach out, touch, communicate, and bring people together. It arises from the spirit to bring joy to others and not from a desire for fame or profit.” – SGI President Daisaku Ikeda

Host – Online Peace Exhibition: My PEACE of Art
Congratulations to the Student Division of SGI Philippines for holding an online exhibit “My Peace of Art” in commemoration of SGI World Peace Day.
Ikeda Sensei shared the following encouragement from “On Our Shared Journey for Kosen-rufu”:
“To build a society where people from the grassroots could emerge to play a leading role, I created and left behind a record of ever-victorious achievement for our movement wherever I went.
That is the path of a disciple. When you make such effort, and chant and take action for kosen-rufu in this way, you will attain great benefit. The number of capable people will also grow.
My young successors, I call on you to spearhead the way forward joyously and victoriously as leaders of kosen-rufu.”
To all the members of the Student Division please continue to spearhead the kosen-rufu movement of SGI Philippines.
Thank you very much for all your efforts!

As society dictates what should be done and should not, may you continue building who you are. Cherish others perspectives, the way you cherish yours.

My art piece is all about establishing harmonious friendships with diverse genders and sexuality. There is some discrimination arising in our society regarding gender preferences, which causes ambivalence and iniquity. Through my art, I want to encourage everyone to accept each other as to who they really are and build indestructible friendships. Let us break the stigma of gender inequality and foster peace.

“Qui vivra verra”—french term of 'the future will tell'
'a poem for the photograph'
The present appears to be different from the past, I'm hoping that things would change in the future with more beautiful things that I longed for.
I'm currently surviving with the environmnent I am currently in, Isn't it tough? To feel this way and longed for a change all this times?
It is, especially when you want to get out of the situation you are in.
You can't help but think of the future and always Imagine beautiful things and a beautiful life.
Maybe it's okay to feel that way, as long as I'm alive and I'm fine.
As long as I have hopes and dreams, I'm gonna be okay.
I can hold on and be more resourceful, I needed this experience, so I could have a better future and I know better.
Because after all, what's a lotus flower when It grew out of a clean pool?

The girl in this piece represents us, the SGI members, while embracing the world as if we're guarding it from harm. Through this piece, I hope to demonstrate that we can take actions to enhance global peace. Also, we must love the Earth by giving back to it by preserving our natural resources in order to mitigate climate change.

I started to express myself thru art since 2016. Although I'm not really good at it since I draw on paper not thru digital. Eventually, my dad got interested on my passions and supported me. I started to express myself now thru digital artworks. I have my own internal conflicts and struggles but I take them as my inner struggles. This is my dream—to become a digital artist. I envision myself as a digital animator and I want to express my inner good and solid self by finding peace inside myself thru my works of art.

This is a digitally made art which represents flower as the blooming of oneself or simply put, achieving human revolution. While the hand symbolizes us reaching and trying to share to others the peace that started within us.

Acrylic Painting on 8x10" vellum paper
April 7, 2021
This is a contemporary abstract painting with deep shades of blue made with acrylic painting on 8x10" vellum paper. In this painting, the first thing you can depict is an ocean which here represents the deepness of our soul and subconscious mind where we try to get through the hidden depths of the ocean standing for unknown, unexplored thoughts and emotions, the storm and tides to attain calmness and peace of mind. Most of us are getting lost trying to find the pearl in the depth of sea. But by chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo, we can get through everything as it serves as the light to find the tranquility we need. The meaning of this painting may vary depending on your perspective.

The light of the sunset is a hope that gives strength even if the dark is coming. Every sunset reminds me that no matter how bad a day is or how terrible things may seem, the sun is guaranteed to set and rise. The certainty that all chapters will close and a new day will begin soothes my soul. I watch as many sunsets as possible.

Don't let the unpleasant things in this world changed you into something you're not. Remain true to your self. Remain true to your convictions. Just like this majestic sunset that emerged in the gloomy weather, may you always find the courage to move forward no matter what happens.

As we departed from the Kaikan (Culture Center), I thought to myself, "Every day can be a struggle, but I know that I can only find true happiness and solace in our struggle for peace."
