The SGI-Philippines Youth Division successfully held its annual Earth Action Day on April 27, 2025, to promote awareness for the protection and preservation of life and the environment. This altruistic event brought together members of the Student Division and High School Division to make a tangible impact on the community. Around 400 youth members from different areas in Manila, Cebu, Samar, Cagayan de Oro, and Davao participated in the event with the theme, “Kabataang Soka: Kakampi ng kalikasan, Ating Mundo’y Alagaan” (Soka Youth: Allies of Nature, Let’s Take Care of Our World”).

The activity supported and advocated for the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the banner “Towards 2030: Achieving SDGs through Sustainable Human Behavior” by the United Nations.

One of the activities featured in the Earth Action Day was a community clean-up drive in Escolta, Manila which was supported and commended by the Barangay government officials because it coincided with the national government’s campaign for clean environment and elimination of waste pollution.

Youth members in Cagayan de Oro and the Visayas region participated in a mangrove planting activity which could offer benefits such as the protection of coastlines from erosion and storm surges, and supporting biodiversity.

For the event’s educational component, the “Seeds of Hope and Action” exhibition was held at Manila International Peace Center in Escolta, Manila, which showcased inspiring stories and solutions for environmental challenges. The exhibition is a very powerful tool for the youth to realize “the interconnectedness of each individual to each other and its environment and the power of each person to initiate positive change.”1

These meaningful initiatives by the SGI-Philippines Youth Division are based on SGI President Ikeda words: “We must be even more determined… to transform all great evil into great good and to effect a powerful change in the destiny of all humankind.”2

Through these activities, the SGI-Philippines Youth Division continues to cultivate a generation of young leaders committed to protecting the planet, demonstrating that small actions can lead to profound change.
