SGI PHILIPPINES JOINED INTERFAITH HARMONY WEEK EVENT IN DAVAO

SGI-Philippines Southern Mindanao General Headquarter (Davao City, Mindanao) joined “World Interfaith Harmony Week” event in Davao City, Mindanao, in the first week of February 2016. SGI-Philippines members in Davao City, centering around the youth division members, join this event consecutively since four years ago.

Various events, such as interfaith forum, panel discussion, peace walk, art exhibition, and film showing, are held during the World Interfaith Harmony Week which promotes harmony and unity among all people regardless of their religious background.

The opening ceremony was conducted at Ateneo de Davao University, one of the oldest Catholic universities in the country, and representatives of SGI-Philippines members offered the prayer for peace based on the Lotus Sutra. SGI-Philippines youth division representatives also introduced the SGI and discussed the 2016 Peace Proposal of SGI President Ikeda. They engaged in dialogue with other participants from different religious backgrounds and shared their hope for a peaceful country, which created a ripple of trust and friendship among them.

After the event, one of the youth division participants shared his determination, saying, “We have a unique mission in this island of Mindanao which is always the subject of political and religious conflicts. Through heart-to-heart dialogue with people from different cultures and religions, we will promote harmony and mutual understanding and pave the foundation for the realization of a peaceful Mindanao.”
